PRESS: Mexico’s Interjet seeks to sell SSJ100 planes

MOSCOW, Aug 23 (PRIME) -- Mexican airline Interjet is seeking to sell its Sukhoi Superjet 100 (SSJ100) planes produced by Russia’s Sukhoi Civil Aircraft due to a difficult financial state, business daily Vedomosti reported Friday citing sources.

Sources said that in 2016–2017, Interjet stopped paying to producers for components for SSJ100 and began using liner components to maintain the airworthiness of another part of the fleet.

Interjet is the second largest user of SSJ100 planes after Russia’s national flagship carrier Aeroflot, which operates 49 jets.

Other sources said that Interjet will be able to sell only 21 out of its 22 SSJ100 planes as one aircraft had been damaged in the airport and can’t be restored. One of the sources said the airline seeks to sell only 14 planes.

Interjet purchased SSJ100 planes at U.S. $23.5 million per unit with a market price standing at $29 million and now seeks to sell its planes aged four to six years for $16–17 million per unit, sources said.
